Closed: Mochi Kitchen in Somerville

Mochi Kitchen - It's a bittersweet time for us. The great... | Facebook

Oh no! This is old news but I just discovered that Somerville-based Mochi Kitchen closed back in March due to owner Erino Tezuka Wade relocating to San Francisco. :( That explains why I haven't seen them anywhere this year. So sad! They were the only fresh mochi in the Boston area that I'm aware of.

  1. Wow and that mochi sounds amazing! Red bean ginger mochi with cinnamon? I love the innovation with the spices!

  2. They did more traditional mochi too. I had their mochi with mitarashi sauce a few times. So good. There was some mochi with maple that I never got to try and one involving cranberries. *sigh* I fear for some of the other locally-Japanese-owned businesses. We've had a lot of Japanese chains open up in the past few years (Gyu-Kaku, Go Go Curry, Santouka Ramen, Ogawa Coffee, Beard Papa’s) and some non-Japanese-owned Japanese restaurants (none of which I've heard anything good about), but as far as I know it’s been a couple of years since any locally-Japanese-owned food businesses have opened. :/
